Good sandwiches. Tasty breakfasts. Reasonable prices. Friendly staff. I was sad I missed out on a baked potato because I was there pretty early in the morning (they're ready at 10:30 a.m.). They've been around for decades and I always want to stop by when I'm visiting Galesburg.
We discovered the Boxcar Express on Yelp. We were visiting the area and looking for a quick, non-chain lunch. After reading other reviews, we decided to give it a try. As you walk in, you can definitely see the hobo/boxcar theme. The menu is on the wall. You order at the counter from a selection of sandwiches and nachos. There is a wide variety of options - which are served on white or rye bread. I chose the turkey and swiss on white. The bread was very soft and fresh. My husband had the ham and swiss on rye. The rye bread was equally as good. Everyone in the restaurant had an order of the nachos, so I can only assume they are fantastic. They also have some unique side items - pudding, strawberry fluff, etc. Donuts, cookies, and other sweets were available for dessert. They have a backroom that was reserved for a party. I did notice a small arcade area in the backroom.
